full benefit of the course unless you keep up with the assignments.
Hal has designed these courses in a very specific way, and they
work like a miracle. If you do it as designed. I had a great learning experience
with this program. These skills where what I really needed. So
going through the process, it pushed me and forced me to learn.
This program is a definite gold mine. I have never seen these
techniques broken down anywhere and they have helped me so much.
I finally know how the professionals get you so wrapped up in
their scripts. These classes have been the
best I've ever taken, bar none. They provide a working writing
with an abundance of practical techniques to make his/her work
shine. And I'm happy to say it has spilled over into my novel
writing as well. I just feel more confident all around. It was both exciting and challenging
for me. I will definitely recommend this program. You are an intelligent,
in-depth, conscientious, knowledgeable, talented teacher. The
course is extremely fun, interesting, educational, beneficial
and challenging. I don't think you realize
the impact you've had on my life. What I've learned from you has
literally changed the way I write, which in turn is changing my
life. I'm being considered by two of the top agents in Vancouver,
I've been hired to write and rewrite two scripts since I took
the GWS. Other screenwriters and producers I know cannot believe
how rich and interesting my characters are and how powerful my
scripts have become. Thanks Hal !!! This has been
a wonderful experience for me. Learning and doing, and doing and
learning, it's been great !!! I'm struggling like hell, but damn
it, this plane's off the ground now !! You won't regret it for a
moment. Hal has the experience of putting together an instructional
program with sound learning theories behind his presentations.
It's as solid as they come. Hal's class is very informative.
With his background in training he 'shows' you what he is talking
about, and as a visual learner (hey, aren't all screenwriters
visual) he makes the class interesting and fun. Would I cough
up money? Yes. I have and will again. No matter what level your writing is currently at, taking Hal Croasmun's Subtext Class and Great Writing Series, will prove to be the best investment in your future you've ever made as a writer. You will see instantaneous improvements and you'll advance well beyond your dreams. It's great to finally run
into someone who will teach me all of those things that no other
writer; teacher, Film Festival speaker, or Hollywood guru will
discuss. I've always known something was missing but didn't know
how or where to find it. You're terrific! It is fair to say that my
writing has become a lot better. I am more aware of things I was
doing automatically, and I now know that I can improve scenes
by working through a number of techniques in a systematic way. I feel stronger, deeper, more
confident as a writer. I feel I have options, an array of solutions
to choose from rather than run with the first thought that comes
to mind. I have a better understanding of the overall level of
accomplishment that's expected if I want to make it in this market. I learned a lot from the program
and I found that I could apply the technique directly to my development
script as I went along. One thing I liked was the amount of ground you covered; from writing descriptions to anticipatory dialogue to hooks and plant and payoffs, the skills run the gamut. Each adds another layer to our pages. The combination of them together is tremendous. I have recommended it to others. I told them this program was
kicking my writerly ass into gear, and they shouldn't miss out! I think the course is a great
source of *valuable* screenwriting information. Not just another
rehash of the Three-Act structure and telling you WHAT you need
to do. You provide us with tools and techniques for HOW to do
it. Much more valuable -- telling me that I need to earn more
money is not nearly as valuable as showing me how to earn it! We've all heard the mantra, "structure,
structure, structure," but you can have all the structure in the
world and still have a screenplay that bores. Take this class
and learn how to take your story to an entirely new dimension
-- one that will motivate your readers to turn the page. Even with all my background
knowledge writing novels, I've learned so much about the essence
of Story through these screenplay techniques. I feel like I'm
now an ambidextrous writer now between the novels and the screenplays
and all the more powerful because of it. If you're interested in cutting through the theoretical morass, the rhetoric of analytically-driven gurus who can't creatively write for love or for money, take the course! If you're interested in getting your product to market fast, apply it! It won't take the pain out of screenwriting. But it'll maximize the gain. Each lesson has been directly
valuable to the script I'm currently working on. I can't wait
to start on my new script and apply the concepts right from the
beginning. I have spent tens of thousands
of dollars over the past 30 years on alcohol and other substances
in an attempt to: expand my mind, obtain enlightenment, discover
new vistas. 200 bucks and a couple of weeks of this program is
the best damn mind altering bargain I've chosen in a long time. Yes, I would recommend it.
You peel away the mysticism of scriptwriting, revealing the nitty
gritty elements of a great script. It has injected me with confidence.
Learning these skills has given me clearer insights into my characters
as well as practical tools to write better stories. There is something
incredibly satisfying in seeing how the proper use of a particular
skill enhances a scene and your writing. I'm better able to focus on
the small aspects of the trade that make the screenplay much more
dynamic. I was not aware of many of them, not on a conscious level,
so the assignments have brought a much richer depth to my craft.
I can see where a lot of my previous work needs to be re-done
and that is exactly what I am doing now. "A wonderful course. More

the conferences I've attended." There have been moments when
I've rewritten something based on one of the exercises and thought, "Wow!
